The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was signed into legislation to provide economic relief to employers and employees as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. One part of the act is the Employee Retention Credit. In 2020, the Employee Retention Credit was offered as a refundable tax credit to be used against certain employment taxes. It has been modified and expanded into 2021 with the Consolidated Appropriations Act and the American Rescue Plan.
